What photos work best?

Upload two photos, waiting person first. Photo 1 appears at the pier's end listening. Photo 2 approaches and performs to the camera, appearing mainly in tight shots.

  • Photo 2, the performer: sharp face, looking toward camera, well-lit. This face dominates most of the video.
  • Photo 1, the listener: clear face. Appears from the side initially and on the beach.
  • Single person per photo, from waist up or full length, without sunglasses or beauty filters.
  • Clothing in photos appears in the video: the system preserves outfits from your uploads.
  • For Pet, upload sharp images of each animal showing face and coat clearly.
  • Upload photos of yourself, consenting adults, or your pets. Never celebrities or strangers.

Origins of the Raindance trend

"Raindance" is a song by Dave featuring Tems from his album The Boy Who Played the Harp, released on 23 October 2025. It reached number one on the UK singles chart in the week ending 29 January 2026. The music video came out on 9 January 2026 and passed 280 million YouTube views by October. In one scene Dave sits at the end of a wooden pier while Tems walks up and sings to him; later the two sit together on the sand.

The AI version started in the last week of September 2026, when people began recasting that scene with AI video tools, Higgsfield's Genjutsu among them. On 25 September @yikes_301 posted two AI-made cats on the pier; by 10 October the clip had 3.7 million plays and 733,300 likes on TikTok. Footballers, cartoon characters, couples and pets followed. A CapCut template for the trend showed 704,460 uses on 1 October, and on 8 October two creators, @unchained_off and his friend KevkoYt, put themselves into the scene. Smew AI copies those two AI reels: your two photos replace the two characters, and the song stays.

Video prompt

Recreate the reference video [Video 1] shot for shot: the same wooden pier, the same calm sea and sand beach, the same evening light, the same camera angles, cuts, timing and moves. The singer's mouth moves with the song exactly like in the video. The ONLY change: the young man in the purple jacket and purple shorts who sits at the end of the pier is now the person in [Image 1], and the man in the green shirt and the backwards green cap who sings to the camera is now the person in [Image 2]. The one on the pier = the person in [Image 1], in EVERY shot: copy the exact face from [Image 1] - face shape, eye color and eye shape, eyebrows, nose, mouth, skin tone, age, hair color, hair length and hairstyle, and any beard, moustache, glasses or freckles exactly as in the photo. They wear the clothes from [Image 1]. The singer = the person in [Image 2], in EVERY shot, also in the big close-ups: copy the exact face from [Image 2] - face shape, eye color and eye shape, eyebrows, nose, mouth, skin tone, age, hair color, hair length and hairstyle, and any beard, moustache, glasses or freckles exactly as in the photo. They wear the clothes from [Image 2], with no green cap unless [Image 2] shows one. They copy the singing mouth, the face and the hand moves of the singer in the video, not the smile in [Image 2]. The same real people in every frame, from the first shot to the last, so their friends instantly recognize them. Never morph, never drift back to the original men's faces, never add or remove facial hair. Both people change: neither person from the video stays anywhere, also in the wide shots and when only the back of a head shows. Do not mix the two faces: [Image 1] is only the one on the pier, [Image 2] is only the singer. Shots, matching the reference: 1. The person from [Image 1] sits at the end of the wooden pier and looks out to sea; the camera pulls back over the pier. 2. Close-up of the singer by the sea, singing to the camera. 3. Both sit on the sand: the singer sings, the person from [Image 1] sits beside them. 4. Close-up of the singer singing. 5. The singer points both hands at the camera. 6. Big close-up of the singer singing, one hand on the chest. Anatomy rules: one head per person, on that person's own shoulders. A face never appears on knees, legs, hands or clothes. Exactly two people. No text, no logos.

Image 1 replaces the cat who sits at the end of the wooden pier and looks out to sea, in every shot. Image 2 replaces the cat who walks up the pier and sings to the camera, in every shot, with no leash and no strap. Keep the face shape, ears, fur colors, fur length and markings from each image, not those of the cats in the video. Keep the pier, the sea, the beach, the light, the motion, the mouth movement and the camera exactly as in the video.

Shot-by-shot breakdown of the Raindance clip

Each option recreates a viral AI reel with your photos replacing its characters. The pier, ocean, camera movements and timing come from the reel. Both options follow identical 15-second openings of the trend:

SecondsWhat happens
0 to 4Photo 1 sits alone at the wooden pier's end looking toward the ocean. Camera circles behind them as photo 2 appears distant on the pier.
4 to 7Photo 2 performs directly to camera with ocean backdrop.
7 to 10Both sit beside each other on beach as photo 2 performs to photo 1.
10 to 15Near the water, photo 2 extends hand toward camera, then performs in tight shot.

Both options insert your photos into the reel frame by frame, so shots, camera work and lip sync stay from the reel while faces, bodies and outfits come from your uploads. The performer's face fills most frames and lips must sync with music, so neither option uses cheaper models that generate new scenes. Human uses Seedance 2.5 because our testing showed it preserved photo faces in every shot, including tight ones. Pet uses MiniMax H3 Max Recast because our cat reel testing showed it preserved both pets from photos replacing the reel's cats. Exact cost displays on the Generate button before any charge. Each run creates fresh output, so results vary.

Who performs to whom?

The format works as a serenade, best with two people who'll tag each other. These pairings fit:

  • You and your partner. The standard option: one performs to the other at the pier. Share it on anniversaries, birthdays or after disagreements.
  • Best friends. Cast the friend who rarely performs as the performer.
  • Your two pets. The most viral AI adaptation we found features two cats, reaching 3.7 million plays by 10 October 2026. Cast the more expressive pet as performer.
  • Your parents. With permission, mom performs to dad, or reversed.

Caption ideas: "Him every time I'm upset", "POV: we argued and this is how he says sorry", "My cat when I come home late", "One year with you". Or create your own.

Prefer a rap duet? The AI Hotel Lobby trend places two of you in an orange booth sharing one mic.

Sound and hashtags for posting

Your clip includes the reel's audio: identical 15 seconds of "Raindance" that viral AI adaptations use, so performer's lips sync. You can disable the music on the result screen and add audio when posting. The track belongs to its rights holders, and Smew AI grants no usage rights. Music policies vary by platform, so review them before using the clip in advertisements or sponsored posts.

Hashtags: #raindance is the primary tag, with 157,764 TikTok videos and 3.2 billion views by 10 October 2026, mostly about the track itself. #raindanceaitrend is the AI-specific tag, with 1,002 videos and 6.7 million views that same date. Maintain TikTok's AI label.

FAQ

Raindance trend questions

What is the Raindance AI trend?
It's a viral AI video format from late September 2026. Creators recreate the pier moment from Dave and Tems' "Raindance" music video: someone waits at a wooden pier's end, another approaches and performs to camera, then both sit on the beach. Couples, friends, pets and animated characters have all been featured.
Which song is used in the Raindance AI trend?
The Raindance track by Dave featuring Tems, from Dave's album The Boy Who Played the Harp (October 2025). AI clips use identical portions of the track, and a Smew AI clip includes those 15 seconds from the recreated reel. You can disable the music on the result screen.
How do I make the Raindance AI video with my own photos?
Click "Create your own" and select Human or Pet. Upload photo 1, the pier waiter, then photo 2, the performer, and click Generate. The button displays cost first. You receive a 15-second clip with music, no prompt writing required. The video appears in your Library when ready.
Do I have to sing or record anything?
No. The performer's lip movement comes from the reel, so the person in photo 2 performs in sync with the track. You only upload two photos.
Can I make the Raindance trend with my cats or dogs?
Yes. Select Pet. It recreates the two-cat reel by @yikes_301, which reached 3.7 million TikTok plays by 10 October 2026. Pet 1 waits at the pier and pet 2 performs to camera. The reel features two cats, but you can upload a dog in either position. Upload sharp images of each animal showing face and coat clearly.
How long is the video and what format is it?
15 seconds, MP4. Human is vertical 9:16 at 720p, ready for TikTok and Reels. Pet is wide 16:9 at 768p, like the cat reel it copies. Both come with the reel's song, which you can turn off.
Is my video made from the real Raindance music video?
No. Each option recreates an AI reel made by a TikTok creator, with your photos replacing that reel's characters. Dave and Tems don't appear in your video.
Can I put celebrities or footballers on the pier?
Don't. Many viral recreations feature footballers and animated characters, but fake videos of real people can violate platform policies and personal rights, and characters are owned property. Upload yourself, consenting adults, or your pets.
Do I need the CapCut template for the Raindance trend?
No. The CapCut template "raindance (tems)" reached 704,460 applications on 1 October 2026, but on Smew AI you only upload two photos and receive the complete 15-second clip with music, ready to share.
Where can I watch the official Raindance music video?
On YouTube, where the official video by Dave and Tems launched on 9 January 2026; the original track is on music platforms. This page doesn't recreate it: it generates a new AI clip from your photos.
Is the Raindance trend a TikTok meme or an edit?
Yes, the Raindance meme is a TikTok edit: creators share their pier scene with the track, with no choreography to learn. Your output is an MP4 video, not a GIF.
Do I need a Raindance VN template?
No. VN templates are for the VN video editor application. Here you upload two photos and click Generate.
Is there a Raindance AI template with cats?
Yes. This Raindance AI template lets you place yourself in the Raindance video, or select Pet to create a Raindance AI cat clip from two photos of your pets.
